Key Tips on Measuring SEO and Keyword

Posted in SEO Guide on 20.05.12

Percent of new visits

Bounce rate

The number of visits obviously provides you with a quantitative analysis of the amount of traffic being brought in by each keyword. The next couple of variables speak to visitor engagement. This will provide insight into how well these visitors interacted with the content on your website.

For the best guide to search engine optimisation, check out Purchasing the Simple SEO Guide.

Pages Per Visit

One of the first things you should ask yourself is “How many pages on average would a visitor need to view in order to successfully interact with your site and convert?” Then look at your pages per visit and see if they match up. In the report above you can see the average is roughly 12 pages viewed per visitor. If this seems on target, then great. If not, then you should make any adjustments to increase or decrease the pages per visit.

Average Visit Duration

Similar to above, you should know, on average, how much time it should take for someone to view your site’s content before they convert. Let’s say that you have videos on your landing pages that are three to four minutes long. If you have an average visit duration of two minutes, that would indicate your videos are not being viewed or viewed completely. Again, if your estimate and the actual data do not match up, then you should plan to make changes to match your expectations.

Bounce Rate

The bounce rate is one of the most important variables to look at. Basically, if a high percentage of visitors come to your site and then immediately leave, that would indicate there was a disconnect with them and the content of your site. Their expectation and the content on your website didn’t match up. They were not engaged and left. A high bounce rate like 85 percent indicates low engagement while a low bounce rate like 20 percent or less indicates high engagement.

Still, looking at just one variable provides valuable insight; looking at all of them together provides even more insight that will help you make the necessary changes to your site to increase keyword performance.

Branded vs. Non-Branded Keywords

One of the first things you might notice when you sort your keyword list by the number of visits is that many of your branded keywords are near the top. These keywords are likely to perform better because people who use branded keywords know who you are and have a good expectation on what they will find.

Organic, non-branded keyword performance is a great way to gain deeper insight into how engaged your new visitors are. Furthermore, visitors who found you based on branded keywords aren’t the best indicator of the success of your SEO campaigns. So to best see your non-branded keywords, you will need to filter out the branded ones. Google Analytics provides a very nice tool to allow you to do this.

First click on the “Advanced Segments” and you will see a window that looks something like the one below. Find the button at the lower right-hand side called “+ New Custom Segment.”

Then name your segment so it’s recognizable in the custom segment list. If you have multiple brands, then you need to label them accordingly so you can distinguish them from one another. Then to set up your non-branded segment choose “exclude” then “keyword” then “containing” and then type in your brand name. If your brand name can be spelled a couple of different ways like a space or hyphen between words, then create a new “and statement” and pick the same variables and type in the new spelling. Once you are done, save the segment and you should now see its name in the custom segment column. Click on the checkbox next to your newly formed segment and click “apply.” You will now see your list of keywords that excludes all of the non-branded ones.

Most of these metrics may seem simple but you would be surprised how many people are not taking the time to take advantage of the rich keyword information that comes from analytics. The more you take time to review and course correct, the more success you will have.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) 101: Students Guide – Basics

Students & Beginners Guide on Basic Search Engine Optimization 101.

This Blog post on Search Engine Optimization( SEO ) 101 for students & beginners teaches the basics about Search Engines and web page optimization. Search Engine Optimization in short is called SEO and is also known by different terms like web promotion, organic promotion and free search listing.

Tweak your website using Simple seo Guide and get the best seo possible.

“Search Engine Optimization (SEO) 101: Students Guide – Basics” helps to learn What Search Engine is, What SEO is, Why we do SEO, How SEO works, Finding the website page index, Adding a website page to Google, Yahoo and Bing in a simple way.

Favorite or Bookmark this post as the author will be adding more information on Basic SEO and you may use this post as a reference guide whenever you like to implement SEO.

What is a Search Engine?

Search Engine is a tool that helps to retrieve information for a user when a query is typed into the search text box and by clicking search button submit. A large amount of information can be easily retrieved when you do a search for a particular query also known as Keywords[1] or Key phrase.

Search Engines have large databases that stores information consists of web pages, images, products, news, videos and many other types of files. Information are listed according to Search Engine internal algorithms. When you do a search for a keyword, you can notice the Webpages listing with total results on right hand side of the browser page of some thousands of records. Here the internal algorithms work for displaying the most relevant Webpage results for the keywords. Most Search Engines follow their own algorithm and a few combine or share with others.

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a process to maximize web page visibility in Search Engines for users search queries (Keyword or Key phrase).

SEO tells Search Engine what the site WebPages are about and helps with easy WebPage crawl through effective Page Title, Meta tags[3], Alt attribute, Anchor text, Search friendly HTML tags and code, Optimizing quality content, Keyword optimization and Link building strategy.

Why Search Engine Optimization?

* To increase targeted organic traffic.

* To create brand identity.

* To increase global online presence.

* To list ahead of competitor.

* For long-term sales conversion.

* To increase ROI.

How Search Engine Optimization work in General?

Assume you have a non-SEO webpage and you check for search queries (Keywords / Key phrases) related to your content and check for Search Engine ranking in first page, top 10 positions. If you are ranked, it is well and good. You can dance. But the possiblity is that you will not be ranked for highly user-searched keywords known as strong keywords. Here you need to start with SEO Basics.

(i) Preliminary Measures and Checks

For starters, check whether you have everything in the WebPage to compete with the competition or the information that lists above your Search Engine indexed WebPage. Things to be checked are fresh informative content[4] compared to the page listing above your WebPage listing. Getting the best keywords[5], comparing with the pages listed above your listing and verifying with good keywords suggestion tools. You have various good tools like Google keyword tool[6], Wordtracker[7] and Keyword Discovery[8]. Write clean code with well-formatted Cascading style sheet and Java script, and have it as an external file.

(ii) Primary SEO Guidelines

Try to give more importance to content[9] and only use images[10] with Alt attribute if you find them more relevant to the content and make the web page light in weight. Improve navigation links and the best practice is to go with text navigation links rather than image links for easy Search Engine crawl[11]. Add user interactive forms, polls and quiz if the webpage information needs it. Then start submitting webpages to directories gradually. Once your WebPages are added to few directories and the search engine identifies these directories submission and stores the link information in database, then you will see improvement in your webpage position gradually. SEO works slowly and it is long term. It takes days, weeks and an even a month depending on the WebPage content competition and total search results. So we need to wait for the WebPage to generate traffic and conversion.

(iii) User Query, Search Engine Index & SEO Process

At the time when a Search Engine user searches for information using a query then the query is referred in Search Engine web server to retrieve index information page, the web server refers to index server. On the other hand assume a SEO work has been carried out as explained in preliminary measures and checks and primary SEO guidelines to the WebPages and submitted to the index sever (Refer Figure 1.0). This SEO process makes the WebPages re-indexed by Search Engine bots and stores in index server. Altogether the user query is being checked in index server and Search Engine internal algorithm looks for WebPages in doc server that match the user query and starts listing the indexed WebPages in results of 10 per page.

Figure 1.0

How to find if a website is indexed or not in Search Engines?

To start with you need to check whether your site pages are indexed[12] or not in Search Engines (Refer Figure 2.0),.

Step 1: Go to www.Google.com, www.Yahoo.com, www.Bing.com

Step 2: Type, Site: www.yourdomian.com in Search box.

Step 3: Press, Submit search.

Figure 2.0

If your site pages are listed, you can see a search result page with total site pages indexed. If your site pages are not indexed and listed and Search Engines show “No Results” then you need to add site pages to Google. Yahoo and Bing.

How to list a site in Google, Yahoo and Bing?

If your site is not listed then you need to tell Search Engine about your site through Search Engine add URL page.

1. Add URL to Google

Go to www.google.com/addurl then enter your domain in URL text box, enter comments (optional) and type Captcha text and click Add URL button.(Refer Figure 3.0). That’s all. Now your domain is added in Google Search Engine to index your domain WebPages.

Figure 3.0

2. Submit URL to Yahoo

Go to http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit then enter your domain in text box and press submit URL button.(Refer Figure 3.1). That’s it. Now your domain is submitted in Yahoo Search Engine to index your domain WebPages.

Figure 3.1

3. Submit URL to Bing

Go to www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx then type Captcha characters and next type your domain and press Submit URL button. (Refer Figure 3.2). That’s all. Now your domain is submitted in Bing Search Engine to index your domain WebPages.

Area Sixty One – Web design courses for

Posted in SEO Guide on 17.05.12

About This Site

I have set up this site for a number of reasons …

to provide an online diary of my experiences while attending web design evening classes in Leicester.

to provide a framework to display some of the exercises undertaken while attending these web design evening classes.

Adjust your website using Simple seo Guide and obtain the best seo possible.

to give a flavour of some of the adult education evening classes on web design that are available in Leicester. These are available at prices which are affordable to the average person, rather than the 300-500 (or more!) per day charged by the typical professional training companies.

to share some of the experiences I have had while on these courses.

to highlight, using a combination of web pages and blogs, some of the things I have learnt, and some the problems I have had.

Please contribute to these blogs.

What this site is NOT

This site is not intended to be a teaching site. There are lots of very good websites out there that will provide far better tutorials than I could.

I am not an expert in web design. I still think of myself as a beginner, but I am past the raw novice stage.

About Me

My name is Mick. I am 58, from Leicester, England. I am married with 2 grown-up children and I have recently become a grandfather.

I have spent most of my working life in software development but for the last few years I have been a Reporting Officer at a local FE college producing a multitude of education-related reports using MS Access and SQL. I am currently trying to get to grips with SQL Server Reporting Services to enhance and partially automate the reporting process.

I have been interested in the internet since its “invention”, and it has long been my intention to get a bona fide web site up and running. The series of web design courses I have attended recently is the perfect opportunity to make a serious start on this.

I have no ambitions to make a career out of web design. This is for hobby/personal interest purposes only.

I have, over the past couple of years, attended evening classes in Leicester to learn a little about web design, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Photoshop. I am currently attending a course on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

Please note:

Although I work in an FE college, I have no personal, professional or financial connection to the courses mentioned in this website.

In this context I am just a beginner web designer.

Beginners tips for Search Engine

Posted in SEO Guide on 15.05.12

Beginners tips for Search Engine Optimization

I will like to share some tips related to search engine optimization.

1. SEO DOES TAKE TIME: It takes time for you to research keywords, optimize your site and its contents and receive external links from other websites. Further than that, though your site will gain validity and value to search engines longer exists. So much of the SEO process is to simply wait and be patient.

Tweak your website using Simple seo Guide and obtain the best seo for your keywords.

2. Probably the biggest “Do not” DO NOT EMBED INVISIBLE text into your site: it is usually keywords that are made to be the same color as the background, usually at the bottom of a webpage. Google recognizes this and penalize your website for it, and you do not want that because Google is number one search engine!

3. Prepares and use of keywords on your site, especially on your homepage: I would link to some keyword tools in the bottom of this post that can help you determine what keywords your site to use. Keywords are what you expect people to use when performing a search, and search engine will list your site if you use these keywords in your meta tags and your text content.

4. Once you have decided on these keywords: it is recommended that you repeat them throughout the text on your website. At the same time avoiding to overload your page with these words – will naturally appear often, but you can try to formulate your sentences in a way where they are still good in a grammatical sense.

Make SEO Work For You, And Reap The Rewards – Mirella Missu

Posted in SEO Guide on 12.05.12

Make SEO Work For You, And Reap The Rewards

It’s not every day that someone can come along and build a site that earns a number-one overall ranking. However, that should still be your ultimate goal. Use the search engine optimization tips provided to you in this article and you can begin to climb those Air Max rankings on your way to that coveted top spot.

For the most upto date guide to seo, check out Purchasing the Simple SEO Guide.

Use appropriate keyword density in all your content. If you are overdoing keywords, search engines pick that Air Max up as keyword filling, and they will often reject the site from the SERP (Search Engine Report Page). You want to moderate use so you are providing quality content that has the right amount of keywords to be found in a relevant search.

When setting up your site with SEO, pick a few keywords to optimize and focus your efforts on those. Trying to use too many different keywords will result in keyword dilution, where the weight of your keywords is lost in the text. If you must have many different keywords, create multiple pages that can link back to your product pages.

Find someone else that is in the same industry as you and trade links. Offer to place their links on the back page of your newsletter as long as they are willing to do the same for you. This should bring more traffic to both websites with no investment or risk involved.

When optimizing a webpage for search engines, do not let keywords take up more than twenty percent of the page’s total content. This is a cumulative figure, including every keyword incorporated in the page. Primary keywords should not make up more than five percent of content, and secondary keywords should be limited to two or three percent.

Keep your page simple. The more time it takes to load your page due to huge, time-consuming graphics or oddly styled www.officialairmaxproshop.com coding, the less likely it will be for a search engine to recommend you. Keep your readers in mind as well. You do not want to drive anyone away from your site because it simply can’t keep up in a fast-paced world.

When you decide to optimize your business website for search engine indexing, give the process a try for yourself before spending money on SEO consultants.

When working on search engine optimization, make sure you focus on your titles. They should be filled with keywords that are compelling and unique. Titles will be one way people find your site and you want to make sure they are able to draw people to your site.

Use keywords throughout your site to maximize your visibility to search engines. Be sure to choose appropriate and popular keywords that are commonly searched by people looking for information about your products and services. The two most important places to include keywords are the title tag and the page header.

Writing great and unique content must be your first priority for your page to get to the top of the rankings. If you have badly Air Max 95 written or uninteresting repetitive information people will quickly click away from your page and eventually you will slide back down the rankings to obscurity.

As stated in the beginning of this article, a company must include search engine optimization as part of their online marketing Air Max plan, if they are serious about their success. Using the tips in this article will help your website rank better and increase its traffic, which will help you reach your business goals.

How many keywords do you guys focus on a MNS?

Posted in SEO Guide on 12.05.12

Thanked 16 Times in 15 Posts

How many keywords do you guys focus on a MNS?

As stated in topic; how many keywords do you guys usually target per micro niche site?

Just a little information here; MNS to me are 5-7 pages (including contact us / privacy).

For the best guide to search engine optimisation, check out Purchasing the Simple SEO Guide.

I usually have 4-5 articles on each site; each page targets a specific keyword, but except for the ‘main’ keyword (thats on EMD as well),

most of my ‘other secondary’ keywords have very low search volume.

For example;

My main keyword “Kitchen Cabinet” has search volume of 1000 (example) – This goes on my main page and i also obtained kitchencabinet.com

I then create 4 other pages; ranking other keywords like “used kitchen cabinet”, “cheap kitchen cabinet” etc. These keywords may only have search volume of >300.

Is this the best way to develop and make money with MNS? Or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance.

Focus on More than One Keyword for Effective SEO Results

March 21st, 2012 posted by admin

Add comments

The first step for any SEO campaign is to identify the beneficial keywords for each (and every) page of your website and then optimize your website pages for those keywords. However, with the changing face of search engine indexing and increasing attention to semantically related keywords, now you need to focus on more than just one keyword. Using a single keyword for each page and putting in all the SEO efforts to promote that page is unlikely to yield the most beneficial SEO results.

For the best guide to search engine optimisation, check out Purchasing the Simple SEO Guide.

So what is Semantic Indexing?

Latent Semantic Indexing or LXI is the indexing of web page according to the keywords mentioned in the web page as well as the topically related keywords. So it is ok to assume than when a certain page is relevant to a particular keyword, the modern LSI and search engine also consider the page to be relevant for a list of topically related keywords. Therefore, the websites that offer a good selection of keywords that are semantically related are more likely to enjoy beneficial SEO results than the websites that use their entire focus on a single keyword. Moreover, by using a good number of related keywords in your web content, you can show the search engines that the content is written naturally and is not just keyword stuffed. It is something like using cheap business telephone systems for making business calls and getting free Internet along with it.

The process of SEO is constantly changing to support the changing face of search engine optimization. Using topically related keywords is one such change that is due to the result of a significant shift in indexing procedure employed by major search engines. For now, using a single keyword for all your SEO efforts and link building campaigns is not likely to generate the similar positive results as it once did.
